Networks are complex beasts, and if you haven’t worked with them before, it’s easy to avoid them altogether. Sure, most people rely on the router provided by their Internet Service Provider and leave it at that. However, there’s a massive market of consumers who have greater demands for their network. Studying to become a fully qualified network engineer will take several years – there’s quite a bit to it! We aim to provide you with enough knowledge that you feel comfortable to start to take on smaller jobs on your own. Data, Networking & WiFi Fundamentals for Electricians
Imagine a course which teaches you all the basics of networking, data and WiFi and is specifically produced for electricians. Every minute of the course was written with you in mind!
The course consists of over five hours of top quality video content. There’s a mix of presentations, hands-on demos and screen recordings of setting up networks. The curriculum is split in to five main modules with a few extra bonuses thrown in.
Data Cabling
Cabling underpins all networks – even wireless ones! We look at the different types of network cabling and best practices for the installation of each. We talk about both copper and fibre optic cabling along with lots of demonstrations of how to terminate and test copper cabling in various different ways.
Core Networking Concepts
Next we teach you the basics of how networks actually work – just how do devices talk to each other? We cover the differences between LANs and WANs, common network topologies and how common network services such as DNS and DHCP work. Lots of demos in this module.
Troubleshooting Networks
This module covers how to troubleshoot both wired and wireless networks, with a demonstration of how to scan for WiFi interference using a channel scanning app.
Common Networks We Build
This is a practical module where we talk you through some common networks which we build on behalf of our clients. This is a great way to see how the various elements of the course so far fit together.
Bonus module – How to sell and specify data cabling and networking
This is the module that’ll show you how to pay for this course in just one job! It covers our blueprint for upselling networking services to your existing customers.
Doing a rewire? Why not suggest that the customer considers installing robust WiFi throughout their property?
Commercial client fitting out a new office? Help them to think about the number of data points and Ethernet switches they’ll need throughout the space and deliver added value.
